Diocese of Sodor and Mann

At an Ecclesiastical Court held at Douglas on the 26th day of October 1871 Upon hearing this petition in the presence of the parties or their advocates and it being proved that William Mylroie late of Spain formerly of the parish of Lonan in the Isle of Man in or about the month of July departed this life and intestate

This Court hath decreed John Mylroie the brother of the said deceased, administrator, of all and singular the personal estate and effects of said deceased and accordingly he is sworn well and truly to administer the estate and effects of the said deceased by paying his just debts and funeral expenses so far forth as the said estate and effects will extend and the law bind him and distributing the residue thereof according to law and to return to the Episcopal Registry of this Diocese a full, true and perfect inventory thereof with an accurate account of his acts and proceeding in the premises when thereunto lawfully required. And to these ends he hath given pledges namely James Quilleash of Ballaraugh in the parish of Lonan and John Mylroie jnr of Ballaraugh in the parish of Lonan who have entered into and executed the usual bond in presence of the Court. Decretum est

R.Jebb

NOTES

  1. Ballaraugh
  2. William was the older son of John Mylroie & Ann Quilleash. He was born in Lonan in 1845
  3. There is nothing to indicate what William was doing in Spain while his parents and brother continued to live in Lonan. Perhaps he was a mariner although he was listed as a blacksmith's apprentice in the 1861 census
  4. Administration of the estate appears to have been granted to William's brother, John jnr. However, it was his father John who applied to the Court to become administrator of this estate and his brother, John jnr, who was a pledge. So his worship might simply have confused the two Johns.
